Understanding ABHA Health Card: Features, Benefits, and Application Process

In 2021, the Indian government launched the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA), formerly known as Ayushman Bharat Health ID, with the objective of providing a digital health ID to the populace. Spearheaded by the National Health Authority (NHA), a part of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, ABHA aims to establish safer and more efficient digital health records for individuals and their families.

What is ABHA?

ABHA functions as a unique health ID distinguished by a 14-digit identification number, which can be generated using an Aadhaar card or mobile number. This digital platform enables users to share their health records seamlessly with hospitals, clinics, insurance providers, and other relevant entities. The creation of a unique ABHA comes at no cost to citizens.

Benefits of ABHA

The advantages of ABHA include:

  • Access to comprehensive medical records such as lab reports, prescriptions, and diagnoses within the platform.
  • Facilitates easy sharing of medical records with healthcare facilities, clinics, and insurance providers.
  • Streamlines the process of presenting medical records, even when individuals are in different cities or states.

How to Apply for ABHA?

Applying for ABHA involves several steps, which can be initiated using an Aadhaar card, driving license, or mobile number. Here’s a step-by-step guide for generating ABHA using an Aadhaar card:

  1. Visit the ABHA website.
  2. Click on “Create your ABHA now.”
  3. Select “Generate via Aadhaar.”
  4. Enter your Aadhaar number or Virtual ID.
  5. Agree to the terms and complete the captcha.
  6. Submit the form.
  7. Enter the OTP received on your smartphone and submit.
  8. Provide your mobile number and submit.
  9. Review the details fetched from your Aadhaar card and submit.
  10. Optionally, create an ABHA address resembling an email ID.
  11. Upon completion, download your ABHA card.

By following these steps, individuals can create their ABHA, enabling them to access and share their medical records seamlessly within the digital healthcare ecosystem.
