India Witnesses Highest Daily Surge in Covid-19 Cases Since September 2022

India experienced a notable spike in Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, with 4,435 new infections reported, marking the highest single-day increase since September 2022, as per the Union Ministry of Health and Family Affairs. The latest data revealed that the number of active cases now stands at 23,091, indicating a concerning rise in virus transmission.

Escalating Tally and Toll

With this surge in cases over the past 24 hours, the overall tally has climbed to 4,47,33,719, underscoring the continued threat posed by the pandemic. Additionally, 15 deaths were reported during the same period, bringing the total death toll to 5,30,916. The increasing number of fatalities underscores the severity of the situation and the imperative for ongoing vigilance and preventive measures.

National Recovery Rate and Regional Impact

Despite the surge in cases, the national Covid recovery rate remains relatively high at 98.76 per cent, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the challenging circumstances. However, regional disparities persist, with different states grappling with varying degrees of infection spread and mortality rates. The Ministry’s data highlighted that among the recent fatalities, one death each was reported from several states including Delhi, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Karnataka, Puducherry, and Rajasthan. Furthermore, Maharashtra and Kerala recorded four deaths each during this period, indicating the widespread impact of the virus across different regions of the country.
