Advancing Architectural Language InovaUSP
Evolution from CDI-USP
InovaUSP, the Research and Innovation Center of the University of São Paulo, stands as a progression of the architectural language established by CDI-USP, its neighboring complex. While both share the concept of the standard block, InovaUSP pushes the boundaries further, particularly in the intricate intersections of these blocks.
Distinct Volumetry and Sculptural Elements
The layout of InovaUSP prioritizes the preservation of existing trees on-site, resulting in a unique volumetric composition distinct from CDI-USP and other university buildings. At the intersection of the two largest blocks, a striking sculptural staircase serves as the focal point and main access to the complex, integrating vertical circulation with leisure and gathering spaces.
Flexibility and Internal Configuration
Flexibility defines InovaUSP’s internal spaces, achieved through strategic placement of hydraulic volumes within each block and a modular structural system. This allows for diverse layout configurations, with the ground floor primarily designated for parking and upper floors accommodating various entities with distinct functions.
Integration with Surrounding Landscape
Large glass panels envelop the blocks, offering uninterrupted views of the lush vegetation, while balconies add dynamism to the façades and promote cross-ventilation. The central space formed by the convergence of major blocks serves as a tranquil gathering area, complemented by existing vegetation and pergolas for relaxation.
Interconnected and Adaptable Spaces
Interconnectivity characterizes all levels of the complex, with rooms designed for flexible use, aligning with the university’s dynamic academic environment. Despite their different purposes, InovaUSP and CDI-USP converge in architectural harmony, emphasizing public engagement and community appropriation of the shared spaces.
Driving Innovation and Research
InovaUSP serves as a hub for research and innovation across various disciplines, housing specialized laboratories and research centers focused on interdisciplinary studies, artificial intelligence, synthetic biology, digital solutions, and more, fostering a culture of innovation within the university community.
