Reimagining Space: Bridging Interior and Exterior
Situated within a newly constructed building with limited space, the challenge was to create a sense of depth and openness. To achieve this, the design team strategically demolished portions of the outer walls to introduce a three-dimensional aspect to the space. By incorporating cantilever eaves and employing glass partitions, they seamlessly blurred the boundaries between the interior and exterior, infusing the space with natural light while maintaining a cozy ambiance.
Embracing Nature: Time-Containing Materials
A commitment to nature-friendly materials such as wood, stone, brick, and metal underscores the design ethos of Komfortabel. Unlike artificial materials that may show signs of wear over time, these natural materials age gracefully, acquiring a patina that enhances their allure. Referred to as ‘time-containing materials,’ they exude warmth and character, requiring management rather than maintenance.
Material Selection: Echoing Coffee Imagery
Drawing inspiration from the image of roasted coffee beans, walnut wood was chosen for the counter, its end grain resembling the deep brown hues and soft texture of coffee beans. The deliberate misalignment of hardwood blocks adds to the organic charm, while birch plywood furniture and countertops offer a contrast to the background of lawang plywood. Outside, the rough concrete facade juxtaposes the warmth of the interior materials, creating a visually striking contrast.
